Boa tarde camaradas daqui de Nova York, e seja qual for a hora em que você estiver no mundo neste momento, queremos agradecer aos organizadores por nos convidarem a participar deste importante evento.

Como Davey disse no início da reunião, há pontos de virada na história, onde os princípios das organizações e indivíduos são testados e esclarecidos, e este é um desses momentos. Está chegando há algum tempo e alguns de nós que estiveram profundamente engajados na luta em torno da Ucrânia e do Donbass nos últimos oito anos estão tentando colocar um alarme em torno disso. E certamente, aqui nos EUA tem sido muito difícil conseguir alguma deslocamento, e agora estamos vendo as consequências disso. No mês passado, vimos muitas formações anti-guerra e de esquerda se curvarem à intensa pressão da propaganda imperialista e colocando a covardia de seus patrocinadores e companheiros de viagem à frente de seu anti-imperialismo e dos interesses dos trabalhadores e oprimidos.

O outro lado dessa moeda é que a crise da guerra está separando o joio do trigo. Líderes e organizações que se apoiaram nos últimos anos e décadas em realizações passadas agora são forçados a mostrar onde realmente estão. E, ao mesmo tempo, acho que como este fórum é um exemplo, grupos que talvez estivessem separados por diferenças históricas e questões secundárias podem agora encontrar uma nova base para trabalhar juntos e aprender uns com os outros.

O Partido da Unidade Socialista e o jornal Struggle/La Lucha defenderam a vitória das Repúblicas de Donbass e da Rússia em sua operação militar conjunta defensiva para desnazificar e desmilitarizar a Ucrânia. O que isso realmente significa é acabar com a guerra genocida de oito anos contra o povo de Donbass. Para tirar o solado da bota neonazista do pescoço do povo ucraniano. Reverter a transformação da Ucrânia em uma base de guerra da OTAN, o que representa uma ameaça constante para a Rússia, e devolvê-la ao status de neutralidade anterior ao golpe de 2014. Apelamos à derrota do imperialismo dos EUA que instigou esta guerra e é um combatente nela como certamente como no Iêmen ou em qualquer outro lugar.

As guerras por procuração de Washington são realizadas. Após a cúpula da OTAN desta semana, os imperialistas estão se aproximando de uma intervenção direta que, é claro, poderia, como todos sabemos, precipitar uma guerra global sem precedentes. Achamos muito importante impulsionar a luta do povo da região de Donbass, das Repúblicas Populares de Donetsk e Lugansk. Muitas vezes, sua luta é ignorada pela esquerda dirigida pela mídia corporativa, que despreza essa luta apenas como uma expressão de separatistas russos ou representantes de Putin.

Mas essa visão só pode ser defendida por pessoas que ignoram completamente o Donbass e a luta antifascista do povo lá nos últimos oito anos. Ignoram como eles perseveraram sob o terror constante das forças armadas ucranianas e dos batalhões neonazistas. Ignoram como eles sobreviveram a um bloqueio muito brutal. Ignoram como se baseiam nas profundas tradições de internacionalismo e antifascismo herdadas do povo soviético e como essa resistência encontrou eco na Rússia. Ou, simplesmente argumentam, aqueles que sabem mais sobre o processo, adaptando seus pontos de vista às necessidades do imperialismo, que é muito do que vemos no movimento agora.

Os marxistas revolucionários olham sob a superfície para entender as forças e contradições de classe em ação. Aqueles que se concentram em Putin e na ideologia reacionária dos capitalistas russos ignoram a relação dialética entre a luta da Rússia para manter sua soberania contra os EUA e a OTAN e a luta antifascista no Donbass e na Ucrânia. Essa mesma dinâmica existe em escala global. Olhando para isso puramente no nível superficial dos pronunciamentos políticos, você pode chegar à conclusão de que há pouca diferença entre a Rússia e o Brasil de Bolsonaro ou a Índia de Modi, mas ao contrário daqueles países cujas classes dominantes estão fundamentalmente ligadas ao imperialismo, a luta de vida ou morte da Rússia para não ser dissecada e engolida pelo imperialismo a empurrou para o campo de países e movimentos que resistem aos EUA. Campo que inclui Venezuela, Cuba, China, RPDC, Síria, Iêmen e Irã.

A partir de nossas modestas forças aqui nos EUA, estamos fazendo o que podemos para esclarecer as questões e trazer uma genuína posição anti-guerra à classe trabalhadora. Lançamos uma campanha chamada 'Stop the War Lies' que visa expor o papel dos EUA/OTAN na Ucrânia. Expondo a relação de apoio do imperialismo aos fascistas ucranianos. Estamos educando sobre a causa do Donbass e expondo como Wall Street, a Big Oil e a indústria militar lucram com a guerra às custas das pessoas daqui.

Nós e grupos aliados temos saído para as comunidades com fichas informativas, mantendo piquetes e manifestando-se. Ontem à noite, nossos camaradas na cidade de Baltimore expuseram cartazes, faixas na hora do rush e realizaram uma panfletagem. Hoje, as pessoas em Nova Orleans e San Diego estão fazendo campanhas comunitárias, e para o próximo fim de semana, em 2 de abril, que é o fim de semana do aniversário do assassinato de Martin Luther King, estamos construindo protestos em Nova York e Los Angeles. Também amanhã, 27 de março, estamos organizando um webinar com palestrantes do Donbass para ajudar a informar o movimento antiguerra e a esquerda nos EUA sobre a realidade da guerra EUA-Ucrânia, e estamos planejando e trabalhando em uma turnê de palestras para esta primavera.

Essas são algumas das coisas reais e concretas em que estamos trabalhando agora. Convidamos as organizações aqui nesta chamada a se juntarem a esse esforço. Estamos abertos a colaborar com grupos aqui nos EUA e internacionalmente. Este é um momento para superar diferenças secundárias e construir uma frente única contra o imperialismo e a guerra que possa lançar as bases para futuras lutas revolucionárias.

Good afternoon comrades from here in New York, and whatever time it is where you are in the world right now, we want to thank the organizers for inviting us to participate in this important event.

As Davey said at the beginning of the meeting, there are turning points in history, where the principles of organizations and individuals get tested and clarified, and this is one of those moments. It’s been coming for a while and some of us who have been deeply engaged in the struggle around Ukraine and Donbass over the last eight years have been trying to put up an alarm around it. And certainly, here in the US it’s been very difficult to get any traction, and now we’re seeing the consequences of that. In the past month we’ve seen so many anti-war and left formations bow to the intense pressure of imperialist propaganda and putting catering to the cowardice of funders and fellow travellers ahead of anti-imperialism, and the interests of the workers and oppressed.

The other side of that coin is that the war crisis is separating the wheat from the chaff. Leaders and organizations that have coasted through recent years and decades on past accomplishments are now forced to show where they really stand. And at the same time, I think as this as this forum is an example, groups that maybe were separated by historical differences and secondary issues may now find a new basis to work together and learn from each other.

The Socialist Unity Party and Struggle/La Lucha newspaper called for the victory of the Donbass republics and Russia in their defensive joint military operation to de-nazify and demilitarise Ukraine. What this really means is to end the eight-year genocidal war against the people of Donbass. To remove the Neo-Nazi boot-heel from the neck of the Ukrainian people. To reverse Ukraine’s transformation into a NATO war base that poses a constant threat to Russia, and return it to the formerly neutral status before the coup of 2014. We call for the defeat of US imperialism which instigated this war and is a combatant in it as surely as it is in Yemen or anywhere else.

Washington’s proxy wars are carried out. After this week’s NATO summit the imperialists are moving closer to direct intervention which of course could as we all know precipitate an unprecedented global war. We think it’s very important to elevate the struggle of the people of the Donbass region, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. Too often their struggle is ignored by the left, or following the lead of the corporate media is written off merely as Russian separatists or Putin’s proxies.

But such a view can only be argued by people who are completely ignorant of the Donbass and the anti-fascist struggle of the people there over the last eight years, how they’ve persevered through constant terror by the Ukrainian armed forces and the Neo-Nazi battalions. How they’ve survived through very brutal blockade. How it draws upon the deep traditions of internationalism and anti-fascism inherited from the Soviet people and how that resistance found an echo in Russia. Or it’s argued only by those who know better but are adapting their views to the needs of imperialism which is much of what we see in the movement right now.

Revolutionary Marxists look below the surface to understand the class forces and contradictions at work. Those who focus on Putin and the Russian capitalists’ reactionary ideology ignore the dialectical relationship between Russia’s struggle to maintain its sovereignty against the US and NATO, and the anti-fascist struggle in Donbass and Ukraine. that same dynamic exists on a global scale. Looking at it purely on the surface level of political pronouncements, you could come to the conclusion that there’s little difference between Russia and Bolsonaro’s Brazil or Modi’s India, but unlike those countries whose ruling classes are fundamentally tied to imperialism, the life and death struggle of Russia not to be dissected and swallowed up by imperialism has pushed it into the camp of countries and movements resisting the US. Including Venezuela, Cuba, China, the DPRK, Syria, Yemen and Iran.

With our modest forces here in the US we’re doing what we can to clarify the issues and bring a genuine anti-war position to the working class. We’ve launched a campaign called ‘Stop the War Lies’ which is aimed at exposing the US/NATO role in Ukraine. Exposing imperialism’s cozy relationship with the Ukrainian fascists. Educating about the cause of Donbass and exposing how Wall Street, Big Oil and the military industry profit from the war at the expense of people here.

We and allied groups have been getting out into communities with fact sheets, holding picket lines and speak outs. Just last night our comrades in the City of Baltimore held a rush-hour banner drop, and leafleting action. Today folks in New Orleans and San Diego are doing community outreach, and for next weekend on April 2nd, which is the anniversary weekend of Martin Luther King’s assassination, we’re building protests in New York and Los Angeles. Also tomorrow, March 27th we’re organizing a webinar featuring speakers from Donbass to help inform the anti-war movement and the left in the US about the reality of the US-Ukraine war, and we’re planning and working on a speaking tour for this spring.

Those are some of the actual, concrete things we’re working on right now. We invite organizations here on this call to join in this effort. We’re open to collaborating with groups here in the us and internationally. This is a moment to overcome secondary differences and build a united front against imperialism and war that can lay the foundation for future revolutionary struggles.
